It Can Be All Fun and Olympic Games

As we celebrate another exciting Olympic Games, let's take a moment to reminisce about some events that are no longer part of the Olympic program and peek at some new additions making their debut.

Gone, But Not Quite Forgotten

Remember when baseball and softball were Olympic sports? These American favorites had a good run from the 1990s to early 2000s, but they've been benched for a while. Don't worry, they're set to make a comeback at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. And the sport will be looking to hit a homerun for the next games.

Speaking of brief appearances, did you know cricket was once an Olympic sport? Despite its massive global following, cricket's Olympic moment was a one-hit wonder back in 1900. Another fleeting Olympic star was lacrosse, the fast-paced Native American sport that last graced the games in 1908.

Now, here's a head-scratcher - tug of war was an Olympic event for two decades! Imagine buff athletes in a heated rope-pulling contest for gold. And here's one we're glad is gone: live pigeon shooting. Yes, you read that right. Thankfully, that controversial event from the 1900 Paris Olympics didn't stick around.

Olympic Sized Evolutions

But it's not all about the past. The Olympics are constantly evolving, bringing in fresh and exciting sports.

This year, we're seeing Breakdancing make its Olympic debut. Picture B-Boys and B-Girls battling it out on the world stage - now that's something to see!

Surfing and skateboarding, which made a splash in Tokyo 2020, are riding the wave of popularity right now in these Olympics. And let's not forget sport climbing, combining speed, bouldering, and lead climbing into one thrilling event.

You’re Saying There’s a Chance

Looking ahead, several sports are vying for a spot in future Olympics. Bowling, MMA, and even esports are all hoping to join the Olympic family. Can you imagine your favorite video gamer becoming an Olympic hero?
